What ingredients aren't in your products?
The ingredients that SheerMineral exclude are: dyes, lakes, carmine, synthetic fragrance, talc, bismuth oxychloride, petroleum derivatives, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, methylparaben, propylparaben, UREA, and others. I strive to provide you with beautiful, highest quality mineral cosmetics that contain ingredients that are not toxic, but rather are good for you.
Do you use Nano-Particles?
I'm so glad people are taking a far more active role in choosing safe cosmetics for themselves and asking these sort of questions. The role of nano-particles is to create a sheer barrier protection in sunscreens and other products. These products are advertised as being “sheer” as in they don't leave that “white” look on your skin. The reason for this is that nano-particles are so small, that they are very nearly transparent. While nano-particles offer barrier protection in liquid products, they simply are no good at all for use in my mineral cosmetic range. That is because my ingredients need to provide pigmentation for obvious reasons. SheerMineral Cosmetics are known for excellent “coverage”. If I were to make a mineral makeup that was made from nano-particles it would not provide any notable coverage at all. This is one reason nano particles or mircronized minerals are not used in my range. I use ingredients and pigments that manufactured for cosmetic use only and that fall strictly within the standard micron range.
Are SheerMineral Cosmetics Hypo-Allergenic?
I believe that SheerMineral Cosmetics are the most hypo-allergenic cosmetic range available. Many women (and men) email me saying how thrilled they are to have found not only a cosmetic range that doesn't irritate their skin, but actually soothes it and is good for them. If you have sensitive skin, prone to irritation, breakouts or allergic reactions then the SheerMineral Cosmetic Range is for you. I have not had a single case mentioned to me of anyone having a negative skin reaction SheerMIneral's pure mineral makeup. The likelihood of a negative reaction is very rare. Some of the most irritating ingredients that other cosmetic companies use in their cosmetics are talcs, oils, dyes and perfumes. Our products are free of all of these ingredients.
Do you ship SheerMineral Cosmetics internationally?
Yes! About 50% of my customers are from countries other than New Zealand. It's always interesting sending orders off to a new location. Freight for international orders is $9.95NZD and orders over $199.00NZD, are sent FREE. Orders are sent via AirMail and although quoting about two weeks for shipping time, they usually arrive between six and ten days after being sent.
Are SheerMineral Cosmetics Tested on Animals, are they Organic and suitable for those who follow a Vegan lifestyle?
No. All my products are tested on humans - namely me (and my long suffering friends). Yes they are organic where applicable, (as most of the ingredients are minerals, no sprays etc are needed, nature does all the hard work for me!). Yes, all SheerMineral products are vegan except my lip gloss (they contain beeswax) and we are working on a new formula that is suitable for those wanting a Vegan option.
I'm outdoors alot, do SheerMineral Foundations have a sunscreen in them?
One of the main ingredients in my foundations is Titanium Dioxide. It is a naturally occuring mineral which effectively blocks both the harmful UVA and UVB rays from the harsh sun, with no skin irritating chemical suncreens. SheerMineral loose mineral foundations contain a very high SPF (sun protection factor) which will aid in protecting your skin against lines, wrinkles, sun damage and Melanoma. A sunscreen is especially important if you are outdoors alot whether it be with sports, work or play, in the water or out of it and I reccommend applying sunscreen of some variety every day, even on cloudy days.
Are SheerMineral Cosmetics suitable to wear if I'm playing sports or while I'm swimming?
Yes. SheerMineral Cosmetics are very long wearing. The mineral powders allow your skin to breathe, they don't rub off easily, are almost waterproof and contain a naturally occuring high SPF. I've noticed even after running, being at the beach all day or after a night out partying (and forgetting to cleanse my face that night), I don't get that "gunky" feeling skin you are left with when using other cosmetic brands.
Is there a SheerMineral Foundation shade that matches my skin tone?
I strive to produce natural looking foundation shades, because my customers are real women. I also offer custom foundation blends for those skin tones that our stock shades don't quite match. Because SheerMineral is a global business, with a large ethnically diverse customer base, and because I am constantly working with women of all complexions, my range complements the many different undertones that our customers represent.
Does SheerMineral have a range suitable for all the skin tones of Ethnic groups?
Yes. So often cosmetic companies simply ignore many women of colour and I feel that in this day and age, there should be a range of the best quality mineral cosmetics, available to women the world over, whatever their skin tone or shade. I aim to have a full line of foundation colours available for Caucasian, Latina, Maori, Pacific Island, Middle-Eastern, Asian and African skin tones, at all times. If none of my shades suit your tonings exactly, I will custom blend a foundation just for you.
If you'd like to blend your own shade, there are Foundation Shade Adjusters now available!
How do I choose a suitable SheerMineral shade for my skin tone, over the internet?
It can be tricky trying to choose the right shade for yourself online - especially with everyone's computer monitor showing the colours in slightly different shades and brightness' etc. If you would like help, please do not hesitate to ask - I am very happy to assist you.
Having some information about your skin tone, will help me in recommending the right shade/s for you. Things like: your ethnicity, if your skin tones are yellow/olive/pink, if you tan during summer or burn, freckle and return to a similar colouring, your hair and eye colour and your skin type (oily, dry, combination) is all very helpful information.
I will work with you to help you make the best choices for your skin tone/s. I have Shade Tester Baggies aviable bile that contain enough for you to test the shades at home, a couple of times and 5gm by volume sample jars of all our foundation shades so we can get it just right, before you commit to making a full size foundation purchase.
How do I apply my SheerMineral Cosmetics for a flawless finish?
All of our products come with instructions on how to apply them to get the best result.
I've found that having the right tool/s for the task, is essential. A Flat-Top Buff Brush, with natural bristles helps ensure you recieve a flawless finish from your SheerMineral Foundations. Our foundations are incredibly easy to apply and should take no more than 30 seconds to apply for excellent coverage and all day wearing.
Pure Mineral Foundations -
Tap a small amount of powder into the top of your sifter and swirl your brush (FlatTop Buff or Foundation brush is recommended) into it. Tap the bottom of the handle with the brush head facing upward on a hard surface (e.g. bathroom counter). This settles the powder into the brush head. Firmly buff the powder on clean, dry skin to in small circular motions to evenly blend pigments. For blemishes, a separate concealer is not needed. Simply use a soft, natural bristle shading brush to apply small amounts directly onto the problem areas and blend well.
For those with dry, flaky or mature skin -
SheerMineral Pure Mineral Foundation can be blended with your moisturiser to create a cream foundation. First moisturise as usual, then tap a small amount of powder into the palm of the hand. Add a drop of moisturiser. Blend the two products together until a smooth, creamy consistency is achieved. Use your fingers or make-up wedge to apply.
SheerMineral Blushes -
Our mineral Blushes are very concentrated and should be applied sparingly. The simplest way to apply our blush is with a large, very soft, natural bristle brush. (Kabuki or a big blush brush is ideal) Gently touch the tips of the brush onto the sifter, then tap the jar so the tiniest bit of blush powder gets onto the tips of the bristles, then gently glide the colour over the apples of the cheek, and blend if needed.
